Fashion U recap, part 2

January 11, 2011

Ok I’m getting back at the recap’s of my New york trip!!

Teen Vogue’s Fashion U had so many amazing “classes” to choose from this year, but I was really happy with the ones I picked! I was lucky enough to attend the editor’s panel, the world of fashion blogger’s, the Intern Queen and a D.I.Y.  session with Erica Domesek.

In the Editors Panel, the Teen Vogue editing team was there including Amy Astley and Eva Chen. They gave us great advice on how to succeed in the fashion industry.  It truly isn’t all about glamor and parties, and like Amy said “fashion is a real industry”!!. It was also good to hear what they look for when hiring interns, which motivates me to be as well rounded as I can to hopefully stand out. I also love the amount of passion people have for their job when they are in the fashion industry. Eva put it best by saying that “you can make whatever you love into a career” , which is how I feel about visual merchandising.

The next “class” I attended was lead by some top fashion bloggers I was so lucky to be in the same room with! Jane and Judy Aldrige were there, along with Street Peeper and Hanneli.  They had some really great down to earth advice about blogging, which is why their  blogs are so amazing.

I loved their shoes, of course, so I tried to take some decent pictures of them.

The session was truly inspiring, as I am always trying to be a better blogger. And my favorite part was getting a chance to meet with Jane and Judy Aldrige

Now, this was only the morning. I didn’t want to take my lunch break that day! It was the best “school” I had ever been in. There is still more to come about this amazing experience in the fashion world, in another post.

A year in review..

January 10, 2011

So 2010 was a pretty amazing year, there’s no denying it. Some years I am glad it’s all over, and some years I wish they could continue. I hope 2011 can top 2010, though it does set the bar high.

The beginning of the year was one big party with the entire world invited, as the 2010 Winter Olympic games were in my back yard. It truly was a once in a life time experience to see the city alive, meet new people, and be so proud to be Canadian. Here are some of my favorite pictures from February…

This photo is one of my favorite moments of the games. Canada had just won gold in Men’s hockey on the last day of the Olympics. My manager let me leave work early to go down town to celebrate. The streets were full of people, proud to be Canadian. Even people from other countries joined the party and we welcomed them with open arms.

The next exciting adventure last year was when I went to LA with a friend for a week. We got to explore Universal studio’s, go to an AMAZING Harry Potter store, and just take a break from life. Here are some pictures from August…

It was an amazing trip. I truly love California and I can’t wait to go back! I want to go to San Fransisco next!!

Speaking of traveling, I am doing a pretty good job of checking off the city’s I want to visit. Back in June I applied to Teen Vogue Fashion U, and on September 15th I woke up to an e-mail saying I had been accepted!!! I flew myself across the country for one of the most amazing weekends of my life. It was truly inspiring career wise and such a thrill to be surrounded by fashion everywhere I went. Here is my October…

(more detailed posts about my trip can be found here)

So I can say I had a truly amazing, monumental, thrilling, and special year. Not only did I also turn the magical age of 21, I met the most amazing boy in the world <3. Plus I was able to travel, see old friends, buy my first car, graduate school, and the list could go on!!

Here’s to a great year ahead, may it be just as amazing as the last!!!!!!!!

Fashion U recap, part 1

November 3, 2010

This October I had the pleasure of attending Teen Vogue’s Fashion University weekend in NYC. It was an amazing weekend that was a really valeuble and fun experience.

Some of my favorite parts of the weekend included Vogue editor Anna Wintour’s key note speech

she had many slides to show us as she talked about her career, and interestingly enough this was her first cover for American Vogue

this is a picture of a photo shoot about Spider Man the musical!

this is a shot from the December Vogue where they modeled this shoot after a famous photo that has been a huge inspiration in the fashion world

finally at the end she took a few questions along with Amy Astley, editor of Teen Vogue. It was really great listening to Anna’s impressive career. My favorite quotes from her include “bring some intelligence to what you do”, “you can never understand the great public”, “Vogue her”(when talking about Blake Lively), and “you don’t start at the bottom, you start from the beginning” from Amy Astley.

After the speach I was heading down to go to my first “class” and who did I run into? Eva Chen, editor of the beauty section in Teen Vogue! I used to love reading her blog on TeenVogue.com and I now follow her on twitter. She is so cute and fun so it was a real pleasure to meet her. Plus her outfit was co cute!!

That was the first part of my weekend, more details are to come on the other amazing “classes” I attended.

So Cute

October 25, 2010

So today was my last full day in NYC. I fly home tomorrow in the evening, so today I took the subway to Soho. I fell in love with this area of New York and wish I had more time to explore there!!

I walked the streets all day looking in boutiques and found a few jem’s to bring home. Here is Soho from my point of view

Needless to say I had a fabulous day and would love to come back to Soho any time. Tomorrow, I explore the Met and say my goodbyes to New York!!

School is in session!

October 23, 2010

Fashion U that is!

Today was the first day of Teen Vogue’s Fashion U and it was such an amazing experience!! If you love fashion, you need to go to Fashion U some day. You can learn so much from people actually in the industry, and find out new jobs you didn’t know existed! (like being a props stylist, I think that’s something I could do!!). Plus you get to meet tons of other guys and girls just as passionate about fashion as you are.

I’m super tired from this exciting day, but I will leave you with one picture that made my day 🙂

In the Big City

October 22, 2010

Hello everyone! I am currently blogging from New York City i aanticipation of Teen Vogue’s Fashion U this weekend. I can’t wait to get the weekend started with the Juicy shopping event tonight 🙂

So far New York is very different from what I’m used to at home. the padestrians and drivers are both crazy here! It is also very chilly, so I’m glad I packed lots of gloves and scarves to keep me warm. I will try my best to post pictures because of all the outfits I planned and of any shopping I will do.

I have a list of places to shop and a hip guide book so I hope togeth they will make my new York experience amazing.

Until tonight, hello New York!!

New York

June 1, 2010

New York has always been a dream destination.

Not only is it one of the fashion capitols of the world, but New York is also a city full of culture and new experiences that I think everyone should have in their lives.  You can’t really explain the magic of seeing a show on Broadway or stepping into Times Square, or even remembering one of New York’s most tragic days. I have always wanted to go to New York, and I may get the chance this fall.

Teen Vogue hosts a Fashion University every fall in New York. It’s a weekend long conference where designers and other prominent figures in the fashion industry hold classes and give you inside tips into the industry. Ever since this started up a few years ago I have dreamed every year of going to New York, meeting up with other girls my age that are into fashion, and possibly meeting or seeing fashion designers or other people in the industry that I could one day work with.

This year is the year, I can feel it. I will be out of school, and hopefully on my way to finding a career. I will also be 21 by then so I can go out and enjoy the New York social scene at night. I have also decided that if I get accepted, I am going to book my flights during the week so I can have lots of time to explore the city while I’m there. I’m so excited, I already looked up flights and want to book them while they’re cheap! But I must hold on because they just started accepting applications today and I know it will take a while for them to decide. Until then I will be sitting by my blackberry awaiting an email.
